Red Sox Could Add Ex-Blue Jays Hurler To Improve Depth After Being DFA'd

Should the Red Sox look into landing the former Blue Jays hurler?

The Boston Red Sox could use some more veteran depth for the bullpen.

Boston's starting rotation arguably has been the best in baseball so far this season to the surprise of many. The Red Sox actually have the best starting pitcher ERA at 2.03, but the bullpen hasn't had equal success.

The Red Sox's bullpen currently has the 17th-best ERA in Major League Baseball at 4.11. Boston has been dealing with a handful of injuries already this season so it could make sense to add some more veteran depth to help out.

One player who recently became available and could make sense is former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Mitch White. He may have a big name, but he is a five-year big league veteran. He recently was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays and could be had for cheap.

Boston could place a claim on him but would have to put him immediately on the 40-man roster. If he clears waivers and enters free agency, he likely could be had for a cheap minor-league deal. Boston already has dealt with a handful of injuries so it wouldn't be shocking to see more.

Landing someone like White could be a cheap option with big league experience who could fill in on a moment's notice. His best big league season was in 2021 with the Los Angeles Dodgers when he had a 3.66 ERA in 21 appearances.

White has spent a lot of time in the minor leagues and has a 3.91 ERA in seven minor league seasons across 108 total appearances. Landing the veteran hurler wouldn't significantly boost the Red Sox's bullpen, but he at least could provide some more depth.
