Jhoan Duran, Max Kepler could be back with Twins soon

Duran started the season on the injured list with a strained oblique.

Two key members of the Minnesota Twins could be back in the lineup soon.

Star closer Jhoan Duran is set to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, reports The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Duran started the season on the 15-day injured list due to a strained oblique.

Duran recorded 27 saves last season in just his second season in the majors. He finished the season averaging the fastest fastball, splitter and curveball in the majors, according to FanGraphs.

Hayes also reported that Twins outfielder Max Kepler is scheduled to run the bases at Target Field within the next two days to assess where the 31-year-old is at in his recovery. Kepler was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 9 due to a right knee contusion.

Kepler had just one hit in 21 plate appearances to start the season while striking out six times. His bruised his knee in the season opener.

The Twins have been wrecked by injuries to start the season, losing star infielder Royce Lewis for at least a month in the first game of the season. Shortstop Carlos Correa was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a mild right intercostal strain.
