Twins claim former first-round pitcher Ryan Jensen off waivers

Jensen had a 5.32 ERA in 43 games across Double and Triple-A in 2023.

The Twins have claimed former first-round pick Ryan Jensen off waivers Thursday from the Miami Marlins.

Jensen was the 27th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old has spent four season in the minors as part of the Cubs and Seattle Mariners organizations, going 7-19 with a 4.42 ERA, recording 247 strikeouts for 10.3 strikeouts-per-9 innings in 86 games.

The 6-foot, 190-pound righty spent the 2023 season with three teams: the Cubs' Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies, Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs and Seattle Triple-A affiliate Tacoma Rainiers, finishing with a 2-8 record and a 5.32 ERA in 43 games.

Jensen is just the second addition to the Twins' roster this offseason, after signing reliever Josh Staumont in December, bringing the organization up to 38 players on its 40-man roster.
