Twins fall to Tigers, lose Carlos Correa in process

Correa exited during the game with an oblique injury.

The Twins took a couple of blows on Friday night: an 8-2 loss at the Detroit Tigers and the loss of shortstop Carlos Correa, who exited during the third inning with an oblique strain following an at-bat.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli indicated to reporters after the game that the expectation is a stint on the injured list for Correa, a difficult blow to an already ailing Twins team. Correa has been one of the Twins' most consistent hitters, and Minnesota is already down another one of its best hitters in third baseman Royce Lewis. That's not to mention a trio of relievers who began the season on IL.

Willi Castro came in at shortstop for Correa, and Baldelli told reporters postgame the plan is to keep Castro at shortstop moving forward.

It's been a tough start to the season for the Twins (4-7) and it was a tough start on Friday for Pablo Lopez, who got touched for six hits and five earned runs in his four-inning start.

The Tigers (8-4) also got two hits and two runs off recently-acquired reliever Michael Tonkin, who also struck out five in two innings of work.

The Twins got a couple of runs in the eighth and ninth innings with Kyle Farmer hitting an RBI double in the eighth and Edouard Julien hitting an RBI single in the ninth, but it was too little, too late.
