Veteran outfield slugger Adam Duvall linked to Twins as 'potential fit'

The Twins have some money to spend after the trade with Seattle.

Could the Minnesota Twins use that $8 million they got from the Mariners in the Jorge Polanco trade to sign a right-handed power bat?

One player who fits the bill has been connected to the Twins by MLB.com as a "potential fit." That player is 35-year-old Adam Duvall, who in 92 games with Boston last season slugged 21 homers with 58 RBIs and an .834 OPS.

"He can slot in at all three outfield positions and mashes right-handed pitching (.863 OPS last season)," MLB.com's profile of Duvall reads. "Having played in the postseason each year from 2019-21 – winning the World Series in the last of those years – Duvall would bring valuable October experience to go with his power bat."

The website calls Brandon Belt, the 36-year-old first baseman who hit 19 homers from the left side of the plate with the Blue Jays last season, a potential fit for the Twins.

FanGraphs projects Minnesota's lineup after the Polanco trade to look something like this against right-handed pitchers. Castro as the designated hitter is fine considering the solid season he had in 2023, but Duvall in that role would be an upgrade.

The calendar flips to February on Thursday and Twins pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Feb. 14, with position players reporting Feb. 18.
