76ers News: Is Kai Jones Playing vs Hornets?

Philadelphia 76ers' latest signee won't be suiting up against his former team.

After bringing him in for a meeting and workout, the Philadelphia 76ers signed Kai Jones to a 10-day contract on Thursday. Ironically enough, their first game since the signing became official is against his former team.

Jones was drafted 19th overall by the New York Knicks in 2021, but ended up making his way to the Charlotte Hornets. He'd go on to spend two seasons there, averaging 2.7 PPG and 2.0 RPG. Jones' time came in Charlotte came to an end back in October when the team decided to waive him.

Due to the timing, many thought Jones could make his debut against his former team. However, that will not be the case. Per the latest injury report, Jones has already been ruled out for Saturday's matchup.

Jones is out because he is with the Sixers' G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He made his debut with them Friday night, and had an impressive showing. Jones logged 30 minutes of action and posted a stat line of 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, five steals, and one block. Among those in attendance to see him in action was Sixers head coach Nick Nurse.

Since he hasn't played in a game all year, the Sixers are likely letting Jones get in-game reps in the G-League. At this time, there is no telling on when he'll be recalled to the NBA level.

Jones, 23, is a hyper-athletic 6-foot-11 center. If given the opportunity to play with the Sixers, he'll provide more size and length on the front line next to Paul Reed and Mo Bamba.
