Marcus Morris’ Contract Details With Sixers Rival Revealed

Marcus Morris is joining a Philadelphia 76ers conference rival.

It turns out that Marcus Morris is not headed to the Western Conference after all. Although there were rumblings about Morris potentially landing with the Minnesota Timberwolves to conclude the 2023-2024 NBA season, the former Philadelphia 76ers forward is headed to a conference rival for a tryout.

On Friday night, Morris’ former Sixers teammate Patrick Beverley broke the news about the forward’s next landing spot, reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers were going to give him a shot. One day later, Shams Charania of The Athletic confirmed that a contract had been agreed to, and Morris is going to Cleveland on a 10-Day deal.

Will Morris Face the 76ers?

Later this month, the Sixers and the Cavaliers are scheduled to battle it out. Based on Morris’ initial contract timeline, the March 29 date for Philly versus Cleveland is out of range.

However, that doesn’t mean Morris won’t face the Sixers. If all goes well with Morris in Cleveland, he could land a full-time contract, keeping him on the roster until the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Or, if the Cavaliers aren’t sold just yet, but intrigued enough to extend his stay a little while longer, then Morris could land an additional 10-Day deal. In either case, Morris would likely be available for the Sixers’ matchup against the Cavs in Cleveland a couple of weeks from now.

On Monday night, the Cavaliers are slated to take on the Indiana Pacers. Per Charania’s report, Morris is expected to be available for the first time in that matchup. By joining the Cavs, Morris officially lands with his third team this season.

At the start of the year, Morris was on the Los Angeles Clippers’ roster. Just a couple of weeks into the season, he was moved to the Sixers. After making 37 appearances with his hometown team, Morris was moved to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline. He was immediately waived by the rebuilding squad.

The veteran lands with the third-seeded Cavaliers, who hold a 42-25 record at this point in the year. They are one game behind the Milwaukee Bucks.
