Sixers Downgrade Kyle Lowry’s Playing Status vs. Spurs
The Philadelphia 76ers will roll without Kyle Lowry against the Spurs.
Heading into a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, the Philadelphia 76ers expect to be undermanned, missing a couple of starters.
The veteran guard Kyle Lowry is among those who have been downgraded on the injury report on Sunday. According to the Sixers, Lowry is ruled out. Fortunately, his absence won’t be due to an injury-related concern.
Instead, Lowry is going to get some rest.
Lately, the veteran guard has been available more often than not for the Sixers. After checking into Saturday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Lowry collected his seventh-straight appearance.
In the win over Memphis, Lowry picked up the start and spent 20 minutes on the court. He put up four shots, making all but one of his attempts. Lowry finished the game with eight points, one rebound, and one assist.
Since joining the Sixers, Lowry has appeared in 21 games, with 18 of those appearances being in the starting lineup. He’s shot 45 percent from the field, and has knocked down 41 percent of his threes on roughly four attempts per game.
Lowry is averaging eight points, three rebounds, and five assists for the Sixers.
Considering Lowry signed with the Sixers after hitting the buyout market, the purpose of the acquisition is to have Lowry healthy and available during the playoffs. While the Sixers need all of the wins they can get down the stretch, having Lowry on the floor when the games count for more is more important than rolling him out on the second night of a back-to-back.
In addition to Lowry, the Sixers will also play without Joel Embiid on Sunday night. Embiid has been ruled out due to knee injury management. The two starters join Robert Covington and De’Anthony Melton, who have extended their absences once again.
