"They are very unselfish" - Doc Rivers praises Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard provided the points and also made their teammates look good when they handed double-digit assists in the Milwaukee Bucks’ 124-117 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
The superstar duo recorded double-digit assists in the second straight game, and coach Doc Rivers couldn’t help but admire the two’s unselfishness.
“They are very unselfish,” Rivers said. “They know that they’re in the action, but they know it’s team action. So, they’re just making the simple pass to the open guy.”
Getting everybody involved
Damian fired 35 points and handed out 11 assists in the seven-point win, while Giannis collected 34 points and ten dimes. The duo also each had seven rebounds in superb all-around performances.
The two superstars also logged double-digit assists in their last game, although their efforts proved not enough to lift the Bucks to the victory after they bowed to the L.A. Lakers, 122-123. In the loss, Giannis tallied 34 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Damian had 28 points and 12 dimes.
A rare feat
What Giannis and Dame did in the last two games was rare. According to the NBA, Antetokounmpo and Lillard became just the second pair of teammates since 1980 to record at least 30 points and 10 assists apiece in the same game.
On the season, Giannis and Dame are Milwaukee’s leaders in points and assists. The Greek Freak is the team’s leading scorer with an average of 30.8 points and second in assists with 6.5 a game. Dame is the team’s assists leader with a 6.9 a game and second in scoring with 24.7 points per outing.
