Christian Wood is one of the best players currently available on the free-agent market, and according to the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Bulls could have a shot at landing the versatile big man. The Bulls still have a few financial options that they could use to acquire the 6-foot-10 forward. However, the question is, should they?

Added size and floor spacing

Outside of centers Nikola Vucevic and Andre Drummond, the Bulls do not have much size in their frontcourt. The Bulls even often used Patrick Williams and Alex Caruso as their power forwards in small-ball lineups that leaned on speed and spacing. Wood’s size would add a dimension that this offense does not possess, which is the ability to be a physical presence in the post as well as stretch out defenses. He shot 37 percent from 3-point range last season on over four attempts per game for the Mavericks, so he could potentially fill the role of floor spacer while also giving them more size in the frontcourt.

Red flags

The question that the Bulls’ decision-makers must first ask Wood or his representatives is about his constant changes of addresses. Wood has played for seven different teams in his brief career, which is peculiar for someone of his talent and skill set.

After all, Wood has averaged nearly 15 points and eight rebounds per game in nearly 300 games in his career. Wood’s last season with the Mavs was highlighted by inconsistency and clashes with coach Jason Kidd, while his other stops have been somewhat more successful.
