When Stacey King joked about his contributions on Michael Jordan's career-high scoring night
In the 1988-89 NBA season, Michael Jordan made his first Conference Finals appearance against the Pistons and lost. The following season, the Bulls had the 6th overall pick from the Nets and used it to select forward Stacey King.
King was a promising rookie
King received All-Rookie 2nd Team Honors that season but is now more notably known for his commentary for the Bulls broadcast. Nevertheless, on March 28, 1990, he had a hilarious quote about his contribution to the Bulls win vs. the Cavaliers.
"I'll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined to score 70 points," King was quoted by the L.A. Times.
The win was a gritty one, and despite Jordan's career-high 69 points, it took overtime to separate the Bulls and Cavs, 117-113. King's 1 point made the quote so funny, as their "combining" for 70 points was relatively one-sided.
Beloved Bulls commentator
Unfortunately, King's playing career was represented by the 70-point performance, as his career average in the NBA was just 6.4 points. He found success after the NBA though, as the Bulls broadcast commentator and is most well-known for his commentary on Derrick Rose highlights.
Despite his NBA career not panning out the way the former 6th overall pick may have hoped, his love for basketball found another manifestation. However, from early on, we could see that King's personality was funny and exciting, and we know him now as the electric commentator for the Chicago Bulls he once played for.
