Jayson Tatum Addresses Celtics Becoming First Free-Throwless Team
On Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum, the Celtics added another historic "accomplishment" to their dominant campaign. But this "achievement" falls into a different category than what's fueled Boston's 62-17 season, securing the NBA's best record and home-court advantage for the duration of its playoff run.
The Celtics did not attempt a single free throw in their 104-91 loss to the Bucks. It's the first time in league history a team did not make one trip to the foul line.
Milwaukee only took two free throws, and that was in the first frame when Giannis Antetokounmpo went 1/2. Marc Davis' crew only called 12 fouls, and the four the hosts got whistled for are the fewest ever in an NBA game.
When asked about the officiating, Jayson Tatum, who finished with 22 points, six assists, and five rebounds in 37 minutes in Tuesday's defeat, quipped, "Another day in the NBA."
When asked for his take on why there was a scarcity of foul calls, the five-time All-Star offered, "I don't know, maybe just gearing up for the playoffs, they (are) gonna let a lot of things go. So, I guess just getting us ready for playoff basketball."
