BREAKING: LA Clippers Emerge as Team to Trade for James Harden
A week ago, there was some smoke about the LA Clippers acquiring James Harden. Now, it looks as if there's a fire.
According to reports from both Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski, James Harden is picking up his $35.6 million player option so that he could work with the Philadelphia 76ers to be traded to another team; he's played his last game for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Another report mentioned that the LA Clippers and New York Knicks are expected to be some of the teams that will engage with the Philadelphia 76ers. The LA Clippers definitely can't offer the same package that the Knicks would have, but Harden will certainly have a say on where he wants to play next.
Looking at what the Clippers could potentially offer, it'll likely include some variation of Norman Powell, Robert Covington, and Marcus Morris. The bigger question marks would be if it includes Terance Mann, Nicolas Batum, or Paul George. Sources told AllClippers that George's name has been floated around throughout the off-season, but it's never been mentioned for a James Harden trade yet.
While on paper the LA Clippers don't need to make a shocking trade like this, the bigger issue is that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can never stay healthy for the playoffs. The team has had one healthy playoff run in four years, and it's time for a change - the sample size is too big.
