Paul George Reveals Bold Rookie of the Year Prediction
The Rookie of the Year race should be a very interesting one this season. While San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama projects to be unlike anything the NBA has ever seen before, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a rookie of their own that some may have forgotten about.
Missing his entire first season with an injury, Thunder big man Chet Holmgren will technically still be a rookie next season. Similar to Blake Griffin in 2011 and Ben Simmons in 2018, Holmgren will be eligible to win Rookie of the Year next season after missing his entire first year due to injury.
During a recent episode of Podcast P, which is presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, LA Clippers star Paul George predicted that Holmgren will be more polished than Wembanyama next season, and take home Rookie of the Year. While Holmgren of course didn't play at all last season, George believes that being in the league and around NBA basketball every day is something that will help him be further along in his rookie season than other players who didn't get that experience.
That point from George is one that many have used to argue against players like Holmgren being eligible to win Rookie of the Year two seasons after they were drafted, but if he has yet to play in an NBA game, there's no reason why he shouldn't be considered a rookie.
