Russell Westbrook Reacts to Historic Game vs Grizzlies

Russell Westbrook made a very bold statement.

Russell Westbrook had a huge job without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George tonight - figure out a way to defeat Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on the road. Somehow, Westbrook and the Clippers delivered, and he put up a very vintage performance.

Vintage Russell Westbrook wasn't just a statement tonight, it was what he actually did. Against the Memphis Grizzlies, Westbrook put up: 36 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 13/18 FGs, 5/5 3Ps, and only 2 turnovers. He needed to step up without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, and knew that was the assignment.

"Definitely, man," Westbrook said. "My mindset never changes. My role may change, but my mindset doesn't."

It looked like for the two seasons Russell Westbrook was on the Lakers, he somehow lost all of his confidence. He couldn't finish at the rim, he couldn't make threes, and he just didn't look like himself. Granted, he lost some athleticism at 34 years old, but so much of it also seemed mental. With a performance like tonight, it seems like those days may be gone.

"It's that time of the year, and I'm going to let people know," Russell Westbrook said emphatically.

If the Clippers want to have any chance of making it out of the first round, Russell Westbrook is going to need to back up that talk, as there's a very high chance they won't have Paul George for it. Fortunately for the Clippers, he did tonight in an incredibly important win against the Grizzlies.
