Steve Kerr Makes Controversial Statement on Gregg Popovich-Kawhi Leonard Moment

The Golden State Warriors coach weighed in on this Clippers vs. Spurs moment

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich urged fans to stop booing LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard during their matchup earlier this week. Grabbing the public address microphone to speak to the crowd, Popovich seemed to ignite the booing even further, as fans only got louder.

While some agreed with Popovich's message, many did not. Prior to the Spurs facing the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was one of those who took Popovich's side, sharing a controversial take on the situation.

"Booing should be selective," Kerr told reporters, per Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. "I think there should be a general rule that if a guy helps your franchise win a championship, he should never be booed in your building... Other people, fair game."

While many agree with Kerr's belief that a championship, and in Leonard's case a Finals MVP award, should disqualify a player from being booed, others feel strongly in the other direction. This is what has made Kerr's statement controversial, because there are many who argue that as long as fans are not crossing a line, they have the right to boo as much as they want, since they purchased tickets. Some go even further, arguing that Leonard's complicated departure is worthy of booing, even despite his Finals MVP.

There are two sides to this argument, and both feel strongly about their stance. For Kerr, he is with coach Popovich.
