WATCH: Russell Westbrook Battles Cade Cunningham, Other NBA Stars at Rico Hines
At one of the private UCLA Rico Hines runs this summer, LA Clippers star Russell Westbrook pulled up to compete alongside his teammates Norman Powell, KJ Martin, and Moussa Diabate. The Clippers players faced off against Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, and other NBA stars.
These Rico Hines runs have become a staple at UCLA every single summer, always drawing star power from around the NBA. Westbrook made two appearances at the runs this summer, and the first has now been uploaded to YouTube:
While these are of course pickup runs, they are really competitive. With score being kept, players are looking to compete and win alongside their teammates. The runs are often set up so NBA players can play alongside their teammates, much like this run with Westbrook, Powell, Martin, and Diabate, who played against Detroit Pistons teammates Cunningham, Thompson, and Stewart.
Westbrook showed off his impressive athleticism and playmaking ability in the run, exploding for dunks and layups while creating easy looks for his teammates. Also showing off his post game, Westbrook reminded everyone how difficult he can be to defend down low, especially for other guards.
While fans should not take too much away from summer runs, they are always a fun opportunity to see NBA players competing against one another in a competitive exhibition setting before the real season begins.
