2024 NBA Draft: Ron Holland Should Still be in Consideration for Top Pick

Although his G League season was cut short, Ron Holland is still worthy of the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Although the 2024 NBA Draft is just over two months away, there's still not a clear top pick that has risen to the top of consensus draft boards. There are four or five players at this point that could be considered worthy of that No. 1 selection, one of which is Ron Holland of G League Ignite.

The former No. 2 prospect in his high school class, Holland had a fascinating run in the G League this season. He turned the ball over at a very high rate, struggled to score efficiently and was inconsistent overall. Conversely, his defensive motor was unmatched, his versatility shined and he was a dominant force in transition. While he's far from the perfect prospect, the 6-foot-8 combo forward has the tools to be an elite two-way talent one day in the NBA. There's much he still needs to improve on, but he has the baseline foundation to be an impactful player -— and starter — from day one at the next level.

Given his season was cut short due to a thumb injury, talent evaluators haven't gotten a good look at him since February. However, he will have every opportunity to showcase his talent at the NBA Combine and in private workouts with teams over the next two months. He isn't the popular pick by most to be that top draftee today, but there's a real chance that changes in the next several weeks.

Holland is an elite athlete who can already change the game on the defensive end. If he can prove to NBA teams that his ability to process the game quickly and take care of the ball is there, along with showing off repeatable and reliable jumpshot mechanics, there's no reason the team that lands the No. 1 pick shouldn't consider the Ignite prospect.
