Even though all signs point to Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard being traded to the Miami Heat, other teams haven’t been ruled out.

During a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, he discussed the scenario of Lillard joining the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“You wonder if Damian Lillard is watching this [Minnesota] going ‘You know what? Me for Towns. You just switch us,” Simmons said. “We have Gobert. We have Edwards. It’s kinda nice. Me & Ant together. I’ll be align with this guy who’s clearly going to be one of the best five or six guys in the league. Maybe that’s a better situation for me than anywhere else. And I want to win a title and this doesn’t seem unrealistic to me. F**k it. Minnesota, I’m adding them to the list.”

A lot of NBA pundits have high hopes for the Timberwolves’ future. Shooting guard Anthony Edwards is a rising star and he’s proving it this offseason. On Sunday, he scored 34 points to help Team USA defeat Germany in its World Cup warmup tour.

If the Timberwolves happen to acquire Lillard, they could become a contender. He and Edwards could make up one of the NBA’s best backcourts while Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert dominate the frontcourt. But in order to get him, they might have to give up Mike Conley, who is already entering the last year of his three-year contract.

The Timberwolves might be a decent fit for Lillard if the Heat fall through. But it’s very unlikely it could happen.
