Spread & Over/Under Predictions for Hornets vs. Bulls

Picks for tonight's Hornets game.
In this story:

Each game day, we at All Hornets will release an article on our thoughts on the spread and the over/under of Charlotte Hornets games. The star ratings next to the play describe the overall confidence in that particular play.

Star ratings:

1 Star - Not very confident

2 Star - A little confident

3 Star - Fairly confident

4 Star - Very confident

5 Star - Should be a lock to happen

Spread: Bulls -4.5

4 Star play on the Bulls (-5.5): In what will be the third matchup between these teams in January, the Hornets are coming in once again as the underdogs. The Bulls won the back-to-back matchups earlier in the month by 13 and seven points respectively.

In the wake of the Terry Rozier trade to Miami leaving the franchise in an uncomfortable spot, it is quite easy to lean towards Chicago for this one in what strikes me as a generous line for Charlotte.

Over/Under: 216.5

2 Star play on the under: The totals for the matchups earlier in the month were 231 and 195 respectively, which puts the total for this game slightly between the average of the two. That tracks with some players reaching full health since those matchups.

If we were to dig into per-game scoring averages, both teams are bottom-five in the league in points per game, which still doesn't tell us a whole lot until you take into account that no team in the NBA plays with a slow pace that Chicago's 96.94. Given that the Bulls also sport a top-10 defense anchoring their playoff hopes, the under feels preferred here.

My picks this season

ATS: 6-3 (66.7%)

O/U: 4-5 (44.4%)

Overall: 10-8 (55.6%)
