The Utah Jazz G-League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, put together an under-the-radar move on Tuesday afternoon as Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that 2x All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas would be joining aboard the roster in his efforts of putting together a return to the NBA.

Thomas was an electric scorer during his time with the Boston Celtics and even reached MVP conversations with the team during the 2016-17 NBA season. At his peak, the 5'9 guard had averages of 28.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists while leading Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While some injury setbacks after the 2017 playoffs stopped Thomas from reaching back to those same heights, the 35-year-old is taking his talents to Salt Lake City on his road back to a 15-man roster. Thomas hasn't appeared in an NBA game since the 2021-22 season with the Charlotte Hornets but seems healthy and prepared to compete once again.

The longevity of his stint with the Stars seems it may be short-lived if Thomas can find an improved opportunity on a playoff-competitive roster. Still, his ability as an offensive unit and a veteran presence can be a valued addition to the Jazz's G-League squad.

With a bit over a month to go until the NBA regular season comes to a close, time will tell if Thomas showcases enough in his audition to get the nod to get elevated back to his rightful spot in the pros.
