Ex-Jazzman Kelly Olynyk Inks Deal With Raptors

Former Jazzman Kelly Olynyk gets an impressive deal from where it all started.

Ex-Jazzman Kelly Olynyk has found a new home for the foreseeable future. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Kelly Olynyk has signed an extension with the Toronto Raptors for two years worth 26.5 million dollars.

Only a little over three weeks ago, the Utah Jazz traded Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji for draft compensation, and it appears the Raptors didn't need to take long to decide that Olynyk still has some gas left in the tank. In the nine games that Olynyk has been with his new team, he's averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds while logging 20 minutes per game.

This has to be quite a moment for Olynyk, born in Toronto and a current Team Canada member who plans to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also recently competed in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, where Team Canada took third place.

Olynyk was well-liked in Salt Lake City, but with the Jazz in the midst of a rebuild the Jazz front office decided to part ways due to his expiring contract this season. Also, moving Olynyk cleared a path for first-round pick Taylor Hendricks to get much-needed minutes to develop.

That said, the Jazz do miss what Olynyk provided on the court. The well-traveled veteran was an elite facilitator for a big man and provided spacing in Utah's half-court sets. He participated in 50 games for Utah this season and averaged 8.1 points and 5.1 assists.
