Sacramento Kings Awarded 2022-23 NBA Team of the Year

The NBA awarded the honors to the Kings following their record-breaking season.

The Sacramento Kings had a franchise-reviving year during the 2022-23 NBA season, ending a 16-year playoff drought and creating one of the loudest arenas in all of the NBA. Because of that, the Kings have been awarded the NBA's Team of the Year award for their achievements.

The reward recognizes the team's business operations. Kings owner Vivek Ranadive had the following to say about the award:

"We are tremendously proud to be recognized with these distinguished honors as we have further ignited our fanbase, continued to build international excitement, and revolutionized our business... We have the best fans in the world, and we are committed to working hard to bring them the best we can, which they so richly deserve"

The press release highlights non-basketball achievements, such as:
- Near 100% season ticket renewal
- #2 among NBA teams in ticket revenue growth
- #1 in fan in-game experience
- 200%+ increase in game viewership
- Most watched 1st round playoff game in 24 years
- 35% increase in merchandise sales from the team store

The Kings were also awarded the NBA Team Innovation Award for their signature victory beam - a ritual that arrived when head coach Mike Brown took over last season. The award recognizes the teams' unique ideas and execution that generate a positive impact don't the team's business.

The Kings had a record year and are looking to build on it, as they are currently on pace for a 49-win season, one more than last year.
