Lakers News: Anthony Davis Ranks Shockingly Low Among NBA's Top Salaries

A bargain for his true talents.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar center Anthony Davis recently inked a new extension to stay with the franchise for the duration of his prime.

The former No. 1 pick has consistently been one of the best players in the league during his career but his current $40.6 salary may undersell that point compared to his superstar peers. He ranks 15th in player contracts for the 2023-24 season, behind some clearly worse players at this moment in their respective careers.

Injuries are the only reason why Anthony Davis hasn’t been competing for the Kia MVP award in the past years, because at his peak there’s no doubt that he’s a top-five player in the league. After recently signing his extension in Los Angeles, the big man asked for a more versatile role inside the Lakers squad, and is expected to shoot from beyond the arc just as well as protect the rim.

Klay Thompson, Fred Van Vleet and Rudy Gobert are just a few of the names controversially ahead of the former Wildcat.

When Davis is healthy he is arguably the best defensive player in the NBA and one of the top five overall players in the game.

Such a caveat is unfortunately all Laker fans can hope for as the big man hasn't registered a fully healthy season since his New Orleans tenure.

Many cringe whenever Davis takes a spill during a game as it seems as though every single fall he takes could result in another injury.

This year's frontcourt depth behind Davis signed this offseason should alleviate those health concerns thanks to Rob Pelinka's smart moves.

LA hopes that Pelinka's options won't have to see an extended run and are counting on their superstar to stay on the floor to pursue banner #18.
