Former Lakers Forward Among Free Agents Working Out For Phoenix Suns

A familiar face could be heading to the desert!

The Phoenix Suns are working out former Los Angeles Lakers forward Stanley Johnson as they try to add some talent around their three star players. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal take up quite a bit of the Suns cap space so the team looking for potentially cheap options makes all the sense in the world.

It also makes sense that Phoenix may be looking at the former Laker due to the connection with now Suns head coach Frank Vogel. Vogel loved Johnson during their time together in LA and the two may be able to reunite in the desert.

Johnson became a fan favorite during his time with the Lakers. In 48 games with LA in 2021-2022, Johnson averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He did his job off the bench and was effective in shooting the ball and playing defense.

He was traded away last offseason to the Utah Jazz for point guard Patrick Beverly and LA fans were pretty upset. They had hoped to see Johnson grow with the team and continue to show what he could do out on the floor.

The former first round pick never played for Utah and ended up signing with the San Antonio Spurs for 30 games before being waived.

Time will tell if Johnson does end up with the Suns and the Lakers could see a lot of him next season if so.
