Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard D'Angelo Russell, after being sat as a "precaution" during the second half of LA's blowout 134-109 victory against the Houston Rockets Sunday, is going to be rested two days later for the team's matchup tonight against the Utah Jazz.

Russell was considered probable to play earlier today, so this news arrives as a bit of an unpleasant development. Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Russell will sit this evening due to a sore left foot, but be reassessed on Wednesday, the second night of LA's final back-to-back pair of games this year, against the Los Angeles Clippers.

"We look forward to having him back in the lineup pretty soon," head coach Darvin Ham offered, noting that the Lakers were once again trying to be cautious with his injury.

It sure sounds like this may be a bit more serious than LA has let on. To be fair, the team can survive the end of the regular season with Dennis Schröder, an above-average backup, in Russell's stead. Surviving the playoffs would be a bit tougher.

Utah, who will still be missing several of its best players, remains at a decided health disadvantage tonight, even with LA missing D-Lo.
