Lakers News: Insiders Wonder Why LeBron James Declared Anthony Davis Face Of LA

LA seems ready for the season.

Lakers star LeBron James has seen it all throughout his legendary career, and that experience has helped him build one of the greatest resumes in the history of the NBA. Now entering his 21st season, James can still dominate with the best of them, but he can’t take on the heavy load throughout a season like he used to.

He tries to save his best for the postseason, and that is exactly what he will do again this year. But if the Lakers want to make it to the playoffs again, James will need some help from his co-star Anthony Davis.

At Lakers Media Day, James made it clear about whose team the Lakers are this season. He said that they are now Davis’s team, and that opened up a floodgate of questions.

Many wondered why The King would say this, or if there was more behind his words. James is too big of a presence to not have it be his team, but maybe he did it because he knows Davis needs to step up.

Insider Brian Windhorst and others questioned why James did this, and nobody has followed his career more than Windhorst.

“I think LeBron is trying to speak it into existence.”

In order for the Lakers to win this season, Davis will need to be the best player for the team. There will be times when James will take over, but game-to-game, Davis must be consistent.

His biggest issues have been health and consistency. At times Davis looks like the best player on the planet, and others he looks very disengaged. The team can’t have this going forward, and James likely knows this.

He has sent messages through the media in the past, and this could be another example of that. James also likely sees that he is close to the finish line, especially after hinting at retirement at the end of last season.

“He’s admitting that Father Time is sitting with him in the room at the hotel rooms on the road as the seasons wear and pile on one another, and he wonders does he still want to put in the time and the work to continue his career.”

This will be a big year for Davis, and if he can step up, LA will be a true title contender. They will need both James and Davis to be at the top of their games, and they both seem primed to do so this season.
