Lakers News: LA Star Admits He Wasn't Aware Of How Crucial Kings Game Was To West Standings

Does this point to a larger issue for the Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers lost another tough game to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday evening. It was a frustrating game that was close at halftime, but the Kings dismantled them in the third quarter.

Los Angeles lost to the Kings for the second time in a week, hurting their chances to overtake them in the Western Conference standings. With the Lakers clinging to their playoff lives, this game against Sacramento was massive.

However, after the game, one star admitted that he wasn't even aware of how crucial this game was. That would be point guard D'Angelo Russell, who has been under fire at different times this year.

First off, it's a little strange that a player wouldn't know about a critical game in the team schedule. But this also points to another issue, coaching.

Head coach Darvin Ham has been in the headlines all year and not for good reasons. If a player like Russell isn't aware of the magnitude of a game, it does fall back on the coaching staff for not getting the guys prepared.

Russell may have also been messing around with the media members, but this isn't a good look either way. Los Angeles missed a prime opportunity here, and now they've made their lives even tougher the rest of the way.
