Lakers News: Why Stephen A Smith Hates Idea Of Anthony Davis Playing On Olympic Team

He isn't completely wrong here...

As your Los Angeles Lakers begin the new season here shortly, the biggest question mark for them will be the health of stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They have dealt with some unfortunate injuries over the last few years, and it has limited this team.

When they were healthy last season, LA made a run to the Western Conference Finals. It just shows how good of a duo the two All-Stars are, so making sure they remain on the court is of the utmost importance.

Recently, James has created headlines with his supposed interest in joining Team USA next summer in Paris. With James likely being a part of the roster, many have wondered if Davis would follow suit to help Team USA redeem themselves from this summer's debacle at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

However, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith seems to be of the mindset that Davis shouldn’t even be thinking about the Olympics, and instead fully focusing on being healthy for the Lakers season. Smith has never been shy to speak his feelings on a subject, and he did just that here.

You can see his comments below.

Now, Smith isn’t wrong for saying that Davis should be making sure that he can play for the Lakers. But there is a possibility that he can do both. If Davis can find a way to get his body right, maybe he can finally put together a full season.

He is the engine that makes this Lakers team go, so they need him on the court. David also just signed a brand new extension with LA, so having him out there benefits the team heavily.

It remains to be seen if Davis will suit up for Team USA next summer, but for now, his focus is on helping the Lakers try to bring home title 18 this year.
