'I'm Lucky to Be Here': Joe Ingles on Veteran Role With Magic

One of the few roster moves the Orlando Magic has made recently was signing Joe Ingles, and the veteran forward feels like he is the right place.

The Orlando Magic has one of the youngest rosters in the entire NBA, and Joe Ingles has been exactly the veteran presence that the team needs.

The Magic has been quiet in both the trade market and free agency the last couple of years, but signing Ingles this past offseason has been one of the best decisions that the team could have made. Ingles talked more about his new role with the Magic in a recent interview before the team's game against the Miami Heat.

"My whole goal of when I came here was personally to still kinda do what I do, but also help these guys grow and get better," Ingles said. "Not just me, but the guys have grown through everybody here by listening and learning, cause its such a coachable group. It’s a special group to be around, so I’m lucky to be here."

Ingles is only averaging 4.9 points per game this season, which is the second lowest average in his long 10 year career. But his role with the Magic is not necessarily to be a scorer, as the team has plenty of those, but to lead by example and mentor the stars of tomorrow.

Ingles and the rest of the Magic will be back in action tonight against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET in the Paycom Center.
