Is this the Mavs new 'Statement' jersey? The leak & a mixed response
DALLAS - With the offseason beginning to wind down across the NBA, the focus is beginning to shift from player movement to other forms of fan-pleasing content. The most recent example of this idea within the context of the Dallas Mavericks is, our Matt Galatzan writes, the always hotly-debated topic of branding and jersey concepts.
As it happens, speculation has centered on the Mavericks plans to replace the fan-favorite 'Statement' uniforms, better known as the 'Skyline' jerseys, with a concept that has been at the center of a good deal of debate among Mavs twitter fandom.
While simple and to the point, which some fans will likely appreciate, these jerseys apparently replacing such a popular style in the 'Skyline' brand seems to be a questionable decision, and one that has some fans up in arms.
After all, at first glance, these jerseys bear a strikingly similar resemblance to the Mavs' Summer League attire that they have been sporting over the last two summers in the Las Vegas Competition.
It should be noted that this uniform leak could be characterized as the result of "rumors and speculation'' -- but we at Dallasbasketball.com, even amid the hush-hush about it inside Mavs HQ, do indeed feel pretty confident about that speculation.
This will also not be the last of the jersey conversation as we know it, as the Mavericks are set to unveil their 'City Edition' jersey at some point in the future as well. If the supposed leak of these 'Statement' jerseys is anything to go by, there is bound to be plenty of rumors surrounding the 'City Edition' jerseys, too.
Whenever those are revealed, however, it is likely to be met with perhaps just as much, if not more online fan controversy, thanks to the unpopularity of 2018's 'City Edition' fit, and the jaw-dropping rumored ideas that have been floating around the internet.
As for when the second set of jerseys will be leaked or revealed is anyone's guess up to this point. Going off of last year, though, it looks like Mavs fans and NBA fans alike are going to have to wait until at least November before we get a concrete answer either way.
In the grand scheme of things, does this and all of the twitter controversy surrounding the alleged jersey choice actually matter? Probably not, but it is still a fun thing to talk about that will keep fans like us engaged during the slow months of the offseason until training camp begins again in September.
