Mavs FIRST LOOK: DBcom In LA at Kyrie Irving Practice

“You can’t ask for a better situation,” Jason Kidd says as Kyrie Irving readies for Mavs action with his first practice with Luka Doncic's team. "We feel that getting him is going to help put us in a position to win a championship."

LOS ANGELES - The Dallas Mavericks have unveiled the prize of their high-profile trade, with Kyrie Irving in Southern California on Tuesday to participate in his very first workout with his new team.

The Mavs created the blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets to help Luka Doncic, to provide him with assistance in scoring and in ball-handling.

A "second star''? That's the hope. But for now?

Just a first practice.

So, now that Kyrie is here? The Mavs are going to work on how Luka and Kyrie - two "scorers and ball-handlers'' - are going to coexist.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd, who knows something about sharing the ball, seems unworried.

“You can’t ask for a better situation,” Kidd said of the new Dallas duo. ""We feel that getting him is going to help put us in a position to win a championship."

Said Irving on leaving the Nets and joining the Mavericks: "There are times that I felt really disrespected (in Brooklyn) ... (In Dallas) I feel really wanted.”

So far, so good. Happy vibes and title dreams.

But before all of that? A Wednesday night debut at the Clippers, with Luka (heel) not quite yet ready ... but with Kyrie Irving practicing to be ready.
