Unexpected Player Outscores Jokic in Nuggets vs Cavaliers

A rookie outscored Jokic.

The Denver Nuggets lost an incredibly disappointing game to a Cleveland Cavaliers team without Donovan Mitchell last night. Not only that, but a very unexpected player even outscored Jokic in the game - Cavaliers rookie Craig Porter.

Craig Porter Jr. is a 23-year-old undrafted rookie from Wichita State who somehow had the NBA game of his life last night. In 24 minutes off the bench, Porter put up 21 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block on 70% shooting from the field.

Nikola Jokic put up 18 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block on 61% shooting from the field. What's even more shocking is that Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen was a +42 in his minutes on the field when he was Jokic's matchup.

Even though the Denver Nuggets were missing Jamal Murray last night, they absolutely should have beaten that incredibly shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers team. After starting the season with a blazing 8-1 record, the Nuggets have actually lost 3 out of their last 4 games. These include losses to the Houston Rockets, New Orleans Pelicans, and now the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the team needs Jamal Murray to ultimately compete for a championship, they're going to have to steady the course sooner rather than later for seeding purposes, especially with the rest of the starting lineup healthy.
