Source: Ausar Thompson withdraws from pre-draft workout with Indiana Pacers

Thompson was originally scheduled to work out for the Pacers on Friday

The Indiana Pacers had a pre-draft workout scheduled with Overtime Elite's Ausar Thompson on Friday, but it will no longer take place.

A team source informed AllPacers Thompson has withdrawn from the workout. The guard/forward hybrid is projected by many to be a top-ten pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

The Pacers initially tweeted out that Thompson would have a solo workout with the team and shared the announcement on their website. Those posts have now been removed. Indiana hosted Kansas forward Gradey Dick for a solo workout on Thursday.

Thompson has a unique combination of athleticism, size, shot creation, and outside shooting that make him a fascinating prospect. AllPacers broke down his fit with the blue and gold last month. His upside is tremendous, which is why he is considered to be one of the best prospects in the 2023 draft. ESPN projects that Ausar will be selected sixth overall by the Orlando Magic in their latest mock draft.

At this time, it isn't known why Thompson's workout won't take place. With the draft just one week away, it could be for any number of reasons. The 20-year old did share at the NBA Draft combine that he had a meeting scheduled with the Pacers, so the team is still familiar with the player.

Thompson would have been the sixth individual workout for the Pacers in this pre-draft cycle. His twin brother, Amen, is expected to be chosen in the top-five of the draft next Thursday. The Pacers own picks seven, 26, 29, 32, and 55.
