Tyrese Haliburton nominated for Eastern Conference Player of the Week for second-straight week

Haliburton had a 43-point game last week

For the second-straight week to open the NBA season, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton was nominated for the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. Haliburton, along with Pacers wing Aaron Nesmith, were finalists after the first week of action.

The honor for the second week of play rewarded the player in each conference who had the best performances during games played between October 30 and November 5. The winner in the Pacers conference was Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, who finished the week with averages of 31.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Fittingly, he had 30 points and 12 rebounds against Indiana during that week. Steph Curry won in the West.

The Celtics went 3-0 while the Pacers went 1-3 during the week. They lost two close games and were crushed by the Celtics. Haliburton did not play against Boston, though, and had an excellent week himself.

He averaged 26.7 points and 12.7 assists per game during his three appearances, including 43 points in a loss against Charlotte. That tied his career high, but the Pacers fell short.

Haliburton was not to blame. He was terrific, but Indiana needed more from other players. The blue and gold outscored their opponents in all three games during the week with Haliburton on the court — he's a +45 on the season.

He guided Indiana to a bounceback win on Monday with 23 points (a team high) and eight assists against the Spurs. He got the team back on track. If he keeps playing at this level, he could be a nominee for Eastern Conference Player of the Week often.
