Indiana Pacers' Aaron Nesmith and Tyrese Haliburton nominated for first Eastern Conference Player of the Week award of 2023-24

The NBA's first batch of weekly awards were announced on Monday

The NBA announced its player of the week award winners in each conference for games played during the first week of the season on Monday, and the Indiana Pacers received heavy praise.

Despite not winning the hardware, Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton and young wing Aaron Nesmith were nominees for the honor. Ultimately, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey was named the winner.

Maxey averaged over 30 points per game while the 76ers went 2-1. He was a deserving recipient. Nikola Jokic won in the West.

The award was given out to the players who had the best performances from October 24 through 29th. Indiana only played two games in that span, but they won both of them by double figures.

Haliburton was, as expected, excellent. He averaged 20.5 points and 12.0 assists per game in two outings, and he capped it off with an impressive performance against Cleveland. Despite feeling like he is coasting at times, Haliburton was still the best player on the court often.

Nesmith, meanwhile, impressed with his two-way play. He averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while defending well, and he made half of his three-point shots in the pair of games. His outing in Cleveland was one of his best ever as he finished with a career-high 26 points in a win.

"Pretty much from the beginning, honestly," Nesmith said of when he was feeling it that night. He's grown this season for the blue and gold.

Indiana lost on Monday to fall to 2-1, but they'll try to get back on track in Boston tomorrow night.
