Pelicans Release Latest Zion Williamson Injury Update

The New Orleans Pelicans had bad news for fans with the latest Zion Williamson injury update.

NEW ORLEANS- Zion Williamson has missed 43 games this season due to a right hamstring injury suffered in Philadelphia on January 2. There was a re-aggravation in early February and now the New Orleans Pelicans are going into the third month of missing their leading All-Star. Well, fans got good/bad news a day before the regular season home finale.

The Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin announced the following update on Zion Williamson: "After further evaluation, it has been determined that Zion Williamson will continue his rehabilitation and conditioning regimen. We will continue to monitor his progression, and updates will be provided as warranted.”

Williamson averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor in 29 games this season. Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum had the Pelicans perched at the top of the Western Conference in late December. Getting those three back on the court together increases this team's playoff potential exponentially.

The Pelicans are at home on Friday against the New York Knicks with a regular season finale in Minnesota looming large in the playoff race. New Orleans (41-39) is tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for 7th but lost that season series. The Pelicans have to beat the Timberwolves (40-40) to earn the tiebreaker going into the NBA Play-In Tournament.
