New Orleans Pelicans guard has formed a partnership with the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights (LCCR).

New Orleans, LA – The Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights (LCCR) is thrilled to announce a developing relationship with New Orleans Pelicans star, CJ McCollum, to support the youth within the justice system. McCollum's visit to the New Orleans Juvenile Justice Intervention Center (JJIC) and Travis Hill School (THS) in partnership with the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition (NBSJC) on October 18 was a day filled with inspiration, advocacy, and hope for the future.

The visit, a pivotal moment in LCCR's ongoing mission to champion the rights and well-being of children in the juvenile justice system, brought together a dynamic coalition of advocates and change-makers. The event's agenda featured a comprehensive tour of the JJIC and THS, co-located facilities dedicated to the rehabilitation and education of justice system-involved youth.

The highlight of the day was a heartfelt and engaging lunchtime session with the youth at the JJIC. CJ McCollum personally engaged in candid conversations with the young residents. He shared his personal journey, emphasizing the importance of education and resilience in the face of adversity.

State Senator Royce Duplessis, a strong advocate for juvenile justice reform in Louisiana attended the facilities tour with CJ. Following the tour, CJ and NBSJC leadership met with Sen. Duplessis where they discussed the pressing issues facing the state's youth within the justice system and to explore collaborative solutions continuing the ongoing commitment to social justice.

CJ McCollum's partnership with the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights symbolizes a shared commitment to ensuring a brighter future for young people in New Orleans. LCCR continues its dedication to advocating for the rights and needs of these youth, and McCollum's involvement adds a powerful voice to the cause.

McCollum stated, "It's an honor to work with the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights and to meet the compelling young people at the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center and Travis Hill School. They have enormous potential, and it's crucial that we provide them with the support and resources they need to thrive."

LCCR's Co-Executive Director, Kristen Rome, expressed her gratitude for the partnership, saying, "CJ McCollum's visit was transformative for the youth at JJIC and THS. His willingness to engage with these young people sends a powerful message of hope and resilience, and we are excited to work together toward a brighter future."

This partnership exemplifies the potential for positive change when public figures and advocacy organizations collaborate to uplift and inspire the next generation. It is a step forward in the shared goal of creating a more just and equitable future for all young people in the juvenile justice system.
