Detroit Pistons Veteran Will Miss Rest of Season Due to Injury

Detroit Pistons vetersn Quentin Grimes will take the rest of the season off.

The Detroit Pistons will have to wait a while to find out if one of their recent trade acquisitions will pan out or not.

After making a trade with the New York Knicks to acquire Quentin Grimes last month, the Pistons have decided to shut down the veteran for the remainder of the 2023-2024 NBA season.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Grimes has been dealing with lingering muscle soreness. As a result, he’ll continue rehabbing his setback, focusing on next season.

Before landing with the Pistons at the 2024 trade deadline, Grimes was already battling a knee injury. His final game for New York occurred on January 30. After getting ruled out for the following game, Grimes missed three-straight matchups for the Knicks before getting moved to the Pistons.

For his first five games as a member of the Pistons, Grimes was ruled out. He didn’t make his debut with the team until February 24.

In his first set of action with Detroit, Grimes checked in for 26 minutes off the bench. He played for a four-game stretch before the injury forced him into another four-game stretch of absences.

Grimes would return in mid-March to take on the Charlotte Hornets, but once again, his run was short-lived. After spending 36 total minutes on the court over two games, Grimes went inactive for eight games. On Friday, it’s become clear the veteran will focus on getting healthier and not force a return.

Grimes’ run with the Pistons will end after appearing in just six games following the trade. During that time, the veteran averaged 20 minutes on the court, putting up five points per game while shooting 21 percent from the field.
