Despite Detroit’s poor 1-5 start to the season, they are yet to face a proven contender. That changes tonight as the Pistons will face off against the Golden State Warriors at 6 PM EST.

Stephen Curry and the defending champions head into tonight off a surprising loss last night against the Charlotte Hornets 120-113 in overtime. The 3-3 Warriors had an uphill battle, being down almost the entire game, but took the lead back in crunch time. Dennis Smith Jr. hit a layup with 23.1 seconds for Buzz city to force overtime and have the Hornets eventually come out on top. Curry and Poole combined for 55 points, though Poole tweaked his ankle late in the game, leaving him questionable today.

On the other side, the Pistons have lost five straight and can’t seem to get anything going. The team seems to be facing the consequences of clashing youth too early into their NBA careers. Cade Cunningham is coming off a career-high 35-point performance in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He’ll look to get it going early against a Warriors team that could struggle to deal with Detroit’s versatile backcourt.

These are two teams on completely different trajectories. Detroit is hoping to develop as much of its youth as it can to become a competitor in the coming years. Meanwhile, the Warriors are those competitors. Having won last year’s championship, the bay area squad looks to shed the negative headlines that surrounded them in the preseason and get back to their sound winning ways.
