NBA Draft News: Bronny James Reveals Plans for 2024

The Detroit Pistons could take a look at Bronny James.

What’s next for the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James? It seems entering the 2024 NBA Draft is in the cards for the time being.

As a team that will have to build through the draft, the Detroit Pistons will have their eyes on all options. While Bronny James might not be a top-five pick, where the Pistons are expected to be sitting on draft night, the organization will likely do its due diligence on James for later selections.

During his freshman season at USC, James appeared in 25 games, garnering six starts. He struggled from the field, shooting 37 percent overall, and 27 percent from deep. James averaged five points and two assists per game.

While his offense is certainly still a work in progress, there is two-way upside for the young Freshman, who flashed a decent defensive skillset, which is a major plus in an offense-focused era of the NBA.

What’s Next for Bronny?

Late last week, Bronny James shook up the NCAA when it was reported that he was headed for the transfer portal. It seemed that news was almost confirmation that James would return to college for a sophomore run, but do it somewhere other than USC.

While James is indeed hitting the transfer portal, that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to return to college next year. According to the USC guard, he will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft. On Friday, he released an official statement.

“I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete. I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal. Thank you to USC for an amazing Freshman year, and as always thankful for my family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers, and fans for their support.”

James will go through the pre-draft process. Like many young college prospects, who aren’t guaranteed to land in the lottery, James will leave the door open for a potential return to college. And in the event he plans for a sophomore season, James could end up in another uniform.
