Pistons Coach Reacts to Cade Cunningham's Latest Milestone

Monty Williams opens to Pistons star joining elite company.

Along with helping his team to a victory against the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham put himself in the history books Thursday. The former No. 1 pick etched his name next to elite talents such as LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Allen Iverson. Midway through the matchup against the Nets, Cunningham became the sixth-fastest player in history to record 2,500 career points and 800 career assists.

Following the victory, Pistons coach Monty Williams was asked about Cunningham's latest feat. He had nothing but praise for the lead guard, citing the selflessness he plays the game with.

"It's huge. All those guys are going to be in the Hall of Fame someday," Williams said postgame. "For him to be able to do that speaks to his talent and the work that he puts in. That young man sees the best defender every night, sees a double-team most of the night, and he's not a selfish player. He plays the right way."

Cunningham has been nothing short of spectacular since the All-Star break, and that continue against the Nets. He finished the game with a stat line of 32 points, five rebounds, and 11 assists.

After missing almost all of last season due to injury, Cunningham has bounced back in a big way in 2024. Accomplishing feats like this is a testament to how talented of a player he is. Putting up numbers comparable to stars like LeBron and Luka is no small feat, and shouldn't be overlooked.

Cunningham continues to put the work in daily in hopes of building positive momentum for himself and the Pistons heading into the future.
