Steve Nash could be coming home.

The former Brooklyn Nets head coach and Canadian basketball legend has reportedly met with the Toronto Raptors to discuss filling the team’s head coaching vacancy, according to The Athletic. He is the latest name to join Toronto’s “wide-ranging” coaching search that’s so far included names such as JJ Redick, Sergio Scariolo, Jordi Fernandez, Adrian Griffin, Becky Hammon, and others.

Nash had a brief but eventual tenure in Brooklyn where he went 94-67 in two-plus seasons with the Nets. His lack of coaching experience seemed to plague him and eventually led to his dismissal after Kevin Durant reportedly voiced his frustration with the coach to the organization.

It’s unclear whether Nash has the qualities to make him a successful NBA coach. His time in Brooklyn was a failure as he was unable to mesh with Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. However, his offensive prowess as a player could, in theory, help open up Toronto’s lackluster half-court attack.

Nash had previously worked for the Golden State Warriors as a part-time consultant beginning in 2015.

Toronto fired former head coach Nick Nurse on April 21 and has now gone a month without a head coach. Ideally, the organization hopes to have someone hired before the NBA Draft on June 22.
