'Thank You Houston': Former Rockets Guard Josh Christopher Says Farewell
HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets' roster went through a significant overhaul Saturday afternoon. While signing several veteran free agents to enhance their roster, the Rockets shipped out a handful of their young corps, headlined by sending K.J. Martin to the Los Angeles Clippers for a pair of second-round picks.
And joining Martin's jettison was third-year prospect, Josh Christopher. The Rockets sent Christopher to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the sign-and-trade deal that landed Houston Dillon Brooks.
The trade ended Christopher's two-year tenure with the Rockets, who drafted him with the No. 24th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Wednesday evening, Christopher took to Instagram to bid farewell to Houston.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Arizona State never found consistent minutes under former coach Stephen Silas. When he wasn't getting consistent minutes, Christopher spent time developing his game with Houston's G League affiliated team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Christopher averaged 6.9 points in 15.4 minutes in 138 games played with the Rockets. But with the Vipers, Christopher averaged 23.6 points on an average of 33.6 minutes played.
In addition to Christopher and Martin, the Rockets departed from Usman Garuba and TyTy Washington Jr. Houston sent Garuba and Washington to the Atlanta Hawks as a part of a salary cap dump.
