Mavs' Kyrie Irving 'Could Seek Meeting' with Rockets

The Houston Rockets may be a dark horse to sign Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving.

Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving is one of the biggest free agents in the league this summer, and he may look to stay in Texas ... just with a different team.

According to a report from Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, Irving will meet with the Mavericks, as well as the Phoenix Suns, when free agency begins. Haynes also mentions that there could be other teams Irving meets with as well, including the Houston Rockets.

"The Houston Rockets could seek a meeting as well, according to sources," Haynes wrote.

In the report, it is stated that all of Irving's meetings will take place in Los Angeles, and the Mavericks are still "considered the favorites" to re-sign him. Given where the Rockets currently are in their rebuilding phase, and given that Irving wants to compete for another championship, it's hard for us to see Houston being a legitimate option for him.

However, if Irving is seeking a long-term deal with a lot of money, the Rockets may become a candidate. Houston has over $60 million in cap space to work with this offseason, and if their top plans with James Harden or Fred VanVleet burn out (and it seems like that's already happening with Harden), Irving could be an option for the Rockets.
