Rockets Hoping To Keep Three Veteran Players Following Deadline Deals

After a busy day during the NBA trade deadline, the Houston Rockets are hoping to keep Danny Green, Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky.

HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets added four players during the NBA trade deadline on Thursday.

The Rockets added John Wall and Danny Green in the three-team deal that sent Eric Gordon to the Los Angeles Clippers. And in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, Houston acquired Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky for Garrison Mathews and Bruno Fernando.

General manager Rafael Stone confirmed the plan to waive Wall. But Stone and the Rockets are open to keeping the remaining three veterans.

"We added a couple of guys who have really been around the league and have wonderful reputations, and great work ethic," Stone said. "As it relates to their roles on this team, that’s really for Stephen [Silas]. It’s not fair for me to start pontificating how they should be used for the remainder of the year. It’s ultimately on him."

According to AT&T SportsNet, Holiday and Kaminsky were in attendance at shootaround Friday morning ahead of the Rockets road contest against the Miami Heat. Both players expressed their excitement about joining the Rockets.

Stone said Green had not joined the team as of yet. But he could meet with the Rockets in Philadelphia ahead of their road game against the 76ers on Monday.

A source told Inside The Rockets Green's future in Houston is uncertain. There is a possibility Houston could waive Green. But there are talks that the Rockets would like to use the 35-year-old veteran as a spot-up shooter off the bench. Houston is currently 29th in 3-point shooting (32.8 percent).

Stone said he believes the Rockets got better at the deadline while maintaining the team's flexibility for the future.
