The San Antonio Spurs are building something special, and have laid the groundworks of doing so early by compiling young talent, headlined by Victor Wembanyama. They've been in a rebuild for a few years, and have been able to add talents like Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson.

Evidently, each of those players will be able to play around Wembanyama, the teams prized possession in the rebuild. What's important is that they complement his game as he grows into the elite player he's expected to be.

However, it also matters that the team keep long-term repercussions in mind when team-building, as having a talent like Wembanyama will automatically prolong a championship window when that time comes.

"While there are variables in place like a potential Devin Vassell extension, expect the Spurs to wield around $50 million in cap space next summer," The Athletic writes. "Hopefully this season provides the opportunity for the front office to evaluate what type of players make the most sense around Victor Wembanyama, but the Spurs could easily wait until 2025 or possibly 2026 to make their next big splash."

One thing will be key as the Spurs continue their march through this rebuild, and that's patience. Time will expose what the team needs. With players like Vassell and Johnson likely complementing Wembanyama early, the front office will be able to properly evaluate what talents work around Wembanyama and what talents don't.

There's always the case where the Spurs go out on a limb, make a trade including young talent and draft capital to bring another young star alongside Wembanyama. They could do so and build a team around them through the draft and by using what cap space is left.

Having a spotlight on San Antonio now makes free agency navigation a bit easier. Pitching to free agents why the Spurs are a good choice is made easier and they'll have the proper money to hand out to supplement the offer.
