Devin Booker No. 5 on NBA's MVP Contention Ladder

Phoenix Suns SG Devin Booker is considered a top five MVP candidate.

Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker is playing some of the best basketball in the NBA.

Booker is currently top ten in scoring with 27.7 points averaged per night, and at times has put the Suns on his back while pushing them to a 6-1 record to begin the season.

Head coach Monty Williams said last week Booker is probably the most complete player in the game.

“Probably the most complete player in the league right now. There are no weaknesses in his game and he’s scoring everywhere. He’s scoring in the post, he’s scoring from three, he’s scoring off the dribble, he’s been attacking the rim, getting to the basket, transition and really efficient," Williams said.

NBA.com's Michael C. Wright placed Booker in his top five of NBA MVP candidates. Booker fell behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Donovan Mitchell and Ja Morant.

Here's what he offered on Booker's placement:

5. DEVIN BOOKER, PHOENIX SUNS

Season stats: 27.7 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 5.4 apg

"The fourth-place finisher in last year’s MVP race, Booker scored 194 points through the first seven games, the fourth-most points by a Phoenix player in franchise history over such a span to start a season. Booker turned 26 years old on Oct. 30, but by then had produced the sixth-most points (11,363) before a 26th birthday in NBA history," Wright said.

"Although Booker ranked 10th in the NBA in scoring (entering Friday’s games), his value goes beyond the numbers. The eighth-year veteran continues to develop as a playmaker and, most importantly, a leader for a team that aims to finish this season among the top in the West."

Booker finished above the following players:

6. Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers

7. Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics

8. Pascal Siakam, Toronto Raptors

9. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

10. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
