Suns Guard Damion Lee Talks Game-Winner, Confidence

Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee met with reporters after the win last night and praised his teammates for their comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The Phoenix Suns are now 1-0 after slipping past the Dallas Mavericks in 107-105 fashion.

Damion Lee was the man of the night, hitting a pair of clutch three's down the stretch of the second half before nailing the game-winning shot with ten seconds left in the game to seal the deal for Phoenix.

It was an emotional night for fans and players alike, but Lee pulled through in his official debut in a Suns uniform when it mattered most.

Here's what he had to say after the game:

 (On playing his role…)

“Seeing how the game was going early in the first quarter and second quarter, obviously we were down big at the half. The guys, especially the second half, we felt like we weren’t playing up to our end. We came out in the second half. The starters were really energetic. We got stops. We were able to run. Run, then fouling, putting them on the free throw line. Both quarters they were in the bonus in the first five minutes, so essentially you’re playing against a set defense. My role out there, Coach just told me to be aggressive and do what I do. I passed up a couple of shots early, but it started to go in towards the end.”

(On the last shot…)

“They went to set a double on Book (Devin Booker). We knew that was coming. That was marinating the whole game. For us it was just a matter of what was the best shot. Book passed it to me, Mikal (Bridges) cut through. I swung it back to Book to make sure he was going to have the last shot. Just understanding and reading the game, he got it going in the second half. The ball was in my hands with under seven seconds to go. Just make a play. I got to my spot. I think when you see the replay you will see he tugs at my arm a little bit as I went to clutch or shoot it. I got him off a little bit and whatever happened from there happened. We made it, got a win in the left column, so we’ll take it.”

(On being able to deliver in the first game on the Suns…)

“It’s huge. It really just goes to show that trust Coach Monty has, the front office has and the rest of the coaching staff has in me. Obviously, it’s only one game, but if we could rewind and play before, forcing Luka (Doncic) down to get a two point shot, but I ended up going vertical and fouling him. We called a timeout and Coach just looks at me and says, ‘go make a play.’ That’s what you want. A coach that’s always going to instill that confidence in you."
