NBA Suspends Suns Owner Robert Sarver for One Year

The NBA finally concludes a punishment for Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver.

After months upon months of waiting, the Phoenix Suns finally have a resolution to the Robert Sarver investigation.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday the NBA is suspending Sarver for one year from both the Suns and Phoenix Mercury. He is also fined $10 million.

The NBA released the following statement after the investigation concluded.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has said since the early beginning of summer the investigation was nearly complete. Now, we have our resolution.

Initial reports of racism and sexism against Sarver and the Suns were filed last November.

In early June, ESPN first broke a story on former Suns employee Melissa Fender Panagiotakopoulos resigning after 15 years of working for the team, citing she was the subject of "bullying and retaliation by superiors after raising gender-equity concerns and misconduct within the organization."

Over 300 people were interviewed in the process.

According to Charania, The NBA says it will donate Robert Sarver's $10 million fine to organizations that are committed to addressing race and gender-based issues in and outside the workplace.

The Suns are set to begin their preseason here in just a few weeks.
